A Scary Big Government Alert: Cheney Wanted to Bomb Iran During Final Days of Bush Presidency

During a Fox News interview, former Vice President Cheney stated that he urged President Bush to bomb alleged nuclear weapons sites in Iran during the last days of his presidency. Cheney was ultimately unconcerned that the offensive would inevitably erode stability in the Middle East, a region that is already shaken from ongoing unrest, including United States-led wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed.

"I was probably a bigger advocate of military action than any of my colleagues," Mr. Cheney said in response to questions about whether the Bush administration should have launched a pre-emptive attack [against Iran] prior to handing over the White House to Barack Obama. . . .

Mr. Cheney's views were at odds with those of other top officials at the time. Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, had said repeatedly during those final months that a strike against Iran would make the Middle East more unstable and would raise the risk on American forces in neighboring Iraq and Afghanistan. . . .

Now that's big government! I'd rather pay for healthy Americans than endure the human and emotional costs of three wars (of dubious necessity).
