Sotomayor Confirmed!

Just as quickly as news wires confirmed an additional Republican vote for Sonia Sotomayor, the Senate voted to seat her on the Supreme Court, 68-31. Sotomayor replaces the retiring Justice David Souter. Because she will most likely occupy a middle-to-liberal position on the Court, as did Souter, Sotomayor will not cause an immediate shift in the ideological makeup of the justices.

Sotomayor's appointment caused a lot of controversy among several commentators who criticized her on many specious grounds, including that she lacks intellect, is a judicial activist, and does not like white people. Well, needless to say, reality prevailed.

I was heavily involved in the discourse surrounding Sotomayor, namely by responding to unfair criticism against her. For a listing of roughly all of the essays I have written regarding her nomination, see Sonia Sotomayor on Dissenting Justice.
